Podcast Episode 39- How Family Of Origin Affects Marriage

by | Nov 2, 2016

In this podcast Episode, David & Caron Loveless discuss how our family of origin affects marriage and what systems they create, that you need to know.

Each of our family systems significantly impacts the way we learn to relate.  They set up our relational patterns as well as our attitudinal and behavioral habits.  This is what we bring into our marriage.

You didn’t vote on the kind of family system you got. We must know where we’ve come from so we can make peace with it and minimize its defensive impact if it was an unhealthy system.

Here is a brief summary of today’s episode of “The Live True Podcast.”  You can use this as a reference or reminder of key things you feel like you need to pay attention to or pass on to others, in the next 7 days of your life.

The 8 Family Systems discussed in this podcast

  • Functional Family
  • Dramatic Family
  • Traumatic Family
  • Chaotic Family
  • Moralistic Family
  • Authoritative Family
  • Emotionally Entangled Family
  • Mature Inter-Dependent Family

We believe that God’s original plan for each of us is that we would feel safe, secure, and significant, through our relationship with Him. So that no matter what our family of origin gave us or didn’t give us, we still have the chance for a healthy relational life.

Which of the above systems best describes your family?  Was your family a hybrid of several systems? How do you see this system affecting your current marriage and family? Which family system resembles the one you are forming now?
